Nathan Heaney looks ahead to dream stadium fight
A football stadium that plays host to a Championship side could soon also be hosting a world title fight.
Nathan Heaney, a devoted Stoke City supporter, may soon realize his aspiration of stepping into the ring at the bet365 Stadium as Stoke City has applied for a boxing license. The club seeks to amend its premises license to encompass ‘boxing or wrestling entertainment.’
This development aligns with British champion Nathan’s expressed desire for a world title bout at the bet365 Stadium. His recent match against Brad Pauls concluded in a draw just last month.
Currently holding the British middleweight championship, Nathan boasts a record of 18 wins, one draw, and six knockouts. Prospective opponents for him include Janibek Alimkhanuly, Chris Eubank Jr, and Carlos Adames.
The anticipation for Nathan’s next fight is high, with promoter Frank Warren yet to make an announcement. However, boxing commentator Steve Bunce has suggested a potential rematch with Brad Pauls, outdoors in June.
Nathan, a native of Meir, has long harbored the ambition of fighting for a world title at the bet365 Stadium, with preliminary discussions already underway with Stoke City and the club’s chief operating officer Simon King.
Last year, Haney was asked about the possibility of this happening and told StokeonTrentLive, “This would be a once in a lifetime event for the city. I really want to do it – it’s what dreams are made of.
“I have proved myself now as a legitimate fighter and I have the best support in the country. People come from all over the country to my fights – from Devon and Cornwall to Dundee, even from Belfast – and they deserve it. The atmosphere would be brilliant.”
Consultations on the application run until Monday 15 April after which a decision will be made.
