Gervonta Davis has appeared to confirm his next fight with Instagram post
WBA lightweight champion, Gervonta Davis, has been inactive since his mammoth stoppage win over Ryan Garcia last April, but his upgrade from WBA Regular title-holder to full WBA Super champion is now complete and he is set to make his first defence of the belt.
‘Tank’ had been linked with a return to the United Kingdom in recent weeks, as well as a possible showdown with unbeaten British welterweight, Conor Benn.
However, it seems that Davis has made the decision to remain in both the United States and in the lightweight division, with possible unification opportunities on the horizon following the fragmentation of Devin Haney’s undisputed title.
As it stands, Davis is 7-0 on full world title fights, winning all seven of those bouts by knockout, but this will be the American’s first outside of the super-featherweight division.
The man in the opposing corner will be undefeated countryman, Frank Martin (18-0), who was expected to face Shakur Stevenson for the WBC title back in November, before he pulled out of negotiations.
On his Instagram, Davis appeared to confirm the contest, sharing an unofficial fight poster of a match-up between he and Martin that was titled agreed’.

News of the showdown was reported by The Ring last week, with the clash anticipated to join Tszyu-Thurman as the latest instalment of PBC’s move to Amazon Prime, and take place around May or June.
The announcement will have undoubtedly frustrated both Conor Benn and Eddie Hearn who offered ‘Tank’ an eight-figure offer for a fight between the duo. However, Hearn will instead be left to source a new opponent for ‘The Destroyer’, who will likely continue to fight in the United States for the time being, due to his ongoing dispute with the BBBofC.
