Eddie Hearn names new potential opponent after Conor Benn vs Gervonta Davis fight breaks down
It seems that Conor Benn might not be fighting Gervonta Davis after all, as promoter Eddie Hearn has now played that one down and instead name a new likely opponent for the Brit.
Benn is desperate to get his career back on track and fight some big names as he also battles to get his British license back having had a hearing with the BBBofC this month.
After naming his ideal five man hit list, Benn entered into negotiations with American superstar Davis who seemed keen. Davis is a multi-weight champion who currently holds the WBA lightweight title.
The last few days have gone a little quiet however, and Hearn was asked by Pro Boxing Fans to give an update on that contest and whether Davis had engaged with the offer he had been sent.
“No, not yet. We’ll see where that goes. There’s a lot of movement on Conor Benn. There are probably five fights for Conor Benn that are approaching contractual stage.
“We had the hearing last week, in a couple of weeks that will all be resolved, then we’ll see where we’re going to fight next, I want to see him fight in the UK next, and it’s going to be a massive fight.”
A name that was mentioned instead of “Tank” was former welterweight champion Danny Garcia, who could be a good option for a fight on either side of the Atlantic.
“Not major talks, but Danny Garcia reached out to our team to talk to me direct, and I’ll be talking to him this week. I love the fight with Danny Garcia, USA or UK, there are four or five names and he’s definitely in the mix.”
That would prove a good building fight for Benn who continues to be more active on social media than in the ring.
