Conor Benn and Robert Smith come face to face
After months of anticipation, Connor Benn is anticipated to undergo a hearing with the British Boxing Board of Control regarding the renewal of his license, and he has recently run into the man who runs it, Robert Smith.
The British boxer remains ineligible to compete in the UK following two failed drug tests in 2022 prior to his bout with Chris Eubank Jr. Since then, Benn has fought twice in the US, most recently triumphing over Pete Dobson in Las Vegas on February 3 in a 12-round battle, although Dobson has expressed interest in a rematch.
Following the fight, Benn used social media to challenge several top-tier fighters, including Gervonta Davis, who has shown interest. Talks between Benn’s camp and Davis are reportedly progressing, as confirmed by Eddie Hearn.
Now Benn has run into Smith at an event over the weekend.
Been posted a rather frosty picture of the chance meeting on X, though has not revealed what, if anything, was said.
“Catching up with an old mate #destroyer”
Although Benn was cleared of any wrongdoing by the WBC last July and had his suspension lifted by the National Anti-Doping Panel, UK Anti-Doping and the British Boxing Board of Control have appealed this decision.
Benn hopes the upcoming hearing will lead to a swift resolution to this ongoing issue, as his sole focus is now on the potential fight with Davis.
