David Benavidez not only kept hopes alive of a Canelo Alvarez fight, but even mentioned a date
David Benavidez vs Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is a huge anticipated fight that he has now hinted could finally happen soon.
There has been plenty of back and forth over this potential match-up between both sides.
Yesterday, Benavidez, a formidable figure and former champion in the super-middleweight division, responded to Canelo’s recent comments that he would bring nothing to a fight and said that only a substantial sum of around $150 million would entice him into a bout.
After plenty of protracted negotiations with his broadcaster PBC, Canelo has instead decided to fight Jaime Munguia in an all-Mexican clash on his traditional Cinco De Mayo fight date.
It will see him defend all four of his undisputed and unified super middleweight championship belts once more having recently done so against the likes of John Ryder – who Munguia knocked out in his last fight – and Jermall Charlo.
Benavidez has relentlessly pursued a fight with Canelo but his next outing will come up at light heavyweight, though it seems he is still confident a fight with Canelo could happen.
A post on X by Michael Benson captured the comment from Benavidez.

Many in the sport think that Canelo versus Benavidez is one of the best match ups that could be made and that it is a stern test for Canelo that, should he come through, would once again underline his status as one of the current pound-for-pound greats of the sport. Others, meanwhile, think he should give up some of his belts.
