WBC provide update on heavyweight status
After many months of failed negotiations between WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (31-0-1, 22KOs) and mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte (28-2, 19KOs), the World Boxing Council have now provided an update to hopefully get the fight across the line once and for all.
The World Boxing Council released this following statement on January 9: "The WBC has extended the free negotiations period for the WBC mandatory heavyweight title fight between champion Tyson Fury and interim champion Dillian Whyte. If there is no agreement between the parties a purse bid will be held on Tuesday, January 18 at noon in Mexico City WBC headquarters."
Promoters Bob Arum and Frank Warren have both confirmed that Tyson will fight next on March 26, whether that's against Dillian Whyte or someone else. They have been lining up 'The Gypsy King' to defend his Ring Magazine title to either Andy Ruiz Jr. or Robert Helenius read more…
