Everything you need to know about Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua… so far
Although it seems like a lifetime ago already, the undisputed heavyweight championship bout between Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury was only officially agreed on March 15 this year.
Anthony Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn offically declared a two-fight deal had been signed with Tyson Fury.
"All parties have now put pen to paper and we will be working hard over the next few weeks to confirm the site and date for the biggest fight in boxing," Hearn affirmed.
But that remains the only official information released on the biggest British fight of all-time, so BBN have listed everything there is to know about the undisputed ight as of right now:
Date
The date has not yet been announced but a summer showdown seems to be the preferred choice of all parties, so we are looking at July/August. AJ actually confirmed this himself when speaking as a guest on the Jonathan Ross show last weekend, read more
Fury's UK promoter has reservations, believing that there could be a clash of dates for AJ's trainer Robert McCracken and the Tokyo Olympics.
Venue
In a normal world, Wembley would host this historic night of British boxing, but the limits that would placed on the numbers allowed in the crowd would not make this financially viable.
Therefore, the Middle East is the front-runner and AJ has already announced there's been a significant offer proposed. His last fight with Andy Ruiz Jr took place in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, which was a big hit with Matchroom as a business model, stating that they did everything that was promised of them; and for UK fight fans also, who got to watch the main event at a slightly earlier time than usual.
On April 11, both parties were presented with the site deal offers so an announcement must be close by. Hearn said there had been official offers from eight or nine sites, all across the Middle East, Asia, Eastern Europe and America.
However, Saudi Arabia is the most likely choice sill, especially as they put up £40 million to host the Joshua-Ruiz rematch, which is an amount very few could match in price.
TV Channel
In an historic first for the sport, the broadcasting rights will be split between BT Sport and Sky Sports, as well as DAZN in all other territories.
Rematch
The two-fight deal guarantees the loser a second shot a redemption, which has been earmarked for November/December 2021.
Purse
The only way that this fight could be agreed upon is with a 50/50 split.
However, the rematch will likely be a 60/40 split to the victor.
