Tommy Fury involved in shocking fight against late-replacement Rolly Lambert
Overweight light-heavyweight Tommy Fury (8-0, 4KO) took on Roland Lambert (15-1-1, 12KO) on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather's bout with Deji – but the fight was not scored due to it being an exhibition bout.
The former Love Island star was booed heavily by the Dubai crowd as he laboured through six rounds with late-replacement Lambert, 33 from Cameroon, on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather's clash with YouTuber Deji.
Fury had been due to take on Paul Bamba in a professional bout but the fight was scrapped when Fury weighed in seven pounds heavier than his rival. Bamba refused to fight, leaving the organisers to scramble to find a replacement opponent.
Regional cruiserweight champion Lambert has won two African and two Asian titles during his eight-yesr career, but the clash had to be registered as an exhibition due to the last-minute chaos. As a result, the fight wasn't scored and no winner was declared.
Jake Paul provided more entertainment from ringside than the bout itself, commentating on the fight.
Nothing of note really happens in the first round, plenty of feints but a lack of action, but the edge goes to Fury if there were scores, as he landed one or two shots.
In the second stanza, Fury lands a decent little combination, which YouTuber Paul immediately jokes about.
By the fourth round, the disappointed crowd are booing like crazy, with Paul delighting in Fury's uninspired display.
By the final round, both men just coast through to the end. The best action comes after the final bell as Tommy and Jake go at it over the ropes – and then John Fury comically rips his shirt off to join in the frenzy.
Big John Fury shouted: "I am the king of the bare-knuckle fighters."
While Jake Paul casually shrugged: "Come down here and fight me bro."
British boxing had a good weekend up until now, with Sunny Edwards defeating arguably the most dangerous opponent of his career to retain his IBF flyweight belt, then Miss GB Natasha Jonas adding two more belts to the two world titles she already owns, then Battersea's brilliant Denzel Bentley boxing abroad in Vegas with an inspired display against fearsome WBO middleweight champion Janibek Alimkhanuly, and then we end the weekend with this circus.
