Ahead of his MisFits Boxing crossover clash with YouTuber, KSI, on October 14 in Manchester, here are a whole bunch of facts you didn't know about reality TV star and professional boxer, Tommy Fury.
Tommy Fury was born May 7, 1999 in Manchester, England.
He took time off from his boxing career in 2019 to star in the fifth series of the ITV2 reality TV show Love Island. He met his partner Molly-Mae Hague in the dating the show and the couple finished as runners-up of the series. Tommy was actually in a committed relationship with social media influencer Millie Roberts before he joined the show. Roberts told The Sun, "It's mad what fame and money can do to people, try to act like the whole relationship was nothing, but ok, Tommy, you do you."
During the show, he became close friends with professional dancer, Curtis Pritchard, and even starred together on the spinoff show The Boxer and The Ballroom Dancer, which aired on ITV in December 2019. The pals swapped jobs, turning Tommy into a ballroom dancer and Curtis into a boxer.
He has also appeared in the Netflix documentary show At Home with the Furys, which came out earlier this year.
He is the younger half-brother of heavyweight world heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury. They have the same father, John Fury, who is of Irish descent, and his mother Chantal is of Mauritian descent. 'Gypsy' John Fury was a professional boxer himself in the 80s and 90s and once served a four-year prison sentence for gouging another man's eye out, which is why he is not allowed in America.
Tommy's extensive fighting family includes father John; brothers John Jr, Tyson, Shane, Roman; uncles Hugh and Peter, and cousins Demsey, Phill and Hughie. Tommy is also related to Nathan Gorman, Andy Lee, Hosea Burton and Zac Burton.
As an amateur, Tommy started boxing properly at the age of 12 and went on to have a total of just 12 bouts, but won two north regional titles and reached the national finals. He struggled to find willing opponents to face him.
His boxing nickname is 'TNT' Tommy.
His professional debut was against Jevgenijs Andrejevs (10–102–3) in December 2018 at the Manchester Arena, winning via four-round points decision, scored 40–36. The fight was part of the undercard for Josh Warrington vs Carl Frampton.
British boxing legend Ricky Hatton was his first pro trainer, but they parted ways amicably in 2019 and he has been trained by his dad, John, ever since.
Fury had a famous rivalry with YouTuber turned pro boxer Jake Paul. They were initially scheduled to fight on December 18, 2021, but Fury pulled out due to a bacterial chest infection and broken ribs from sparring. The fight was rescheduled for August 6, 2022 at Madison Square Garden, but was forced to pull out again after being denied entry into the United States, due to his association with management company, MTK Global. The fight finally happened on February 26, 2023 in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, where Fury handed Paul his first loss, defeating him via split decision even after suffering a knockdown in the eighth and final round. One judge scored the fight 75–74 to Paul, the other two at 76–73 to Fury. With the victory he was awarded the commemorative WBC Diriyah Belt and a spot in the organisation's top 40 cruiserweight rankings.
BoxRec rank him at 15th in the UK and 139th in the world. The WBC place him at 38th in their world cruiserweight rankings.
The 24-year-old is promoted by Frank Warren, who also manages Tyson, and is currently 9-0 with 4 KOs, which includes wins over three winning fighters, two of which were unbeaten – 6-0 Jake Paul and 2-0 Jordan Grant.
Known for doing a lot of modelling work, he has his own fashion line, reportedly signing a six-figure deal to become the face of boohooMAN as soon as he left the villa in the summer of 2019.
