Jack Massey moved up to headlining act
Jack Massey gets headlining billing on this Friday’s (July 2) Fightzone TV show after the original English Title bill-topper between Ramez Mahmood and Michael Ramabeletsa was derailed due to a Ramabelesta car accident.
Buxton’s Massey will now fight French-based Turk Engin Karakaplan at the Sheffield Fightzone Arena for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) European Cruiserweight Title. Karakaplan has lost seven of 24 outings but has been in with decent operators, including former World Champ, Murat Gassiev, and should be an interesting yardstick for Massey.
There are very high hopes for Jack after a stellar amateur career that saw him win the Senior ABA Title and notch up wins against current British stars like Joshua Buatsi and Chris Billam-Smith. With an almost perfect pro ledger, Jack turned over in 2017 and went 16 fights unbeaten before losing a contentious fight for the Lonsdale Belt against highly-rated Londoner, Richard Riakporhe.
Since then ‘One Smack’ Jack has got back to winning ways with an eight rounds runout in December last year, leaving him flying high at 17-1 (8). Ahead of his Fight Academy debut, the popular and well-supported fighter says he believes that Fightzone viewers will get to see the very best of his career.
“This guy is definitely a threat. He’s a good fighter, I’ve had a look at his record and his losses have come off some world class operators. He’s no mug, he’s strong and he can box. He not lost to mugs and he’s beaten some good guys – it’s got the makings of a good fight.
“Although I haven’t boxed since November, I won’t be going in there with the mindset that I need to get rounds in. If the stoppage is there, then I’ll take it early, no doubt about that. I won’t be going for the KO and leaving myself open though; I’ll stay tidy, have a look at him and if the KO is there, I’ll take it.
“I’m absolutely buzzing to be headlining. I’ve been to a few of these shows and the venue and atmosphere are great, and the production is excellent. I’m really looking forward to it, and boxing in front of a crowd too.”
Fight Academy present an evening of boxing at Sheffield’s Fightzone Arena on July 2. Headlining will be Buxton’s Jack Massey versus France’s Engin Karakaplan for the IBF European Cruiserweight Title. The undercard will feature Wales’ Rhys Edwards; undefeated Lancashire fighters – Josh Holmes, Dan Catlin and Zak Miller; Huddersfield’s Joe Garside; John Harker from York; Norfolk’s Iain Martell; and the debut of Blackpool’s Hannah Baggaley.
