Isaac Cruz wants Ryan Garcia next
Isaac Cruz (25-2-1, 17KOs) appears to have given up on Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, as he sets eyes on a new target.
25-year-old Cruz has long been trying to set up a rematch with ‘Tank’, but has had little to no traction in his attempts. Over the last couple of days, he left a potential fight with the American for dead, setting his sights on a bout with social media phenom Ryan Garcia (24-1-0, 20KOs) instead.
‘El Pitbull’ suffered a close unanimous decision loss to Davis in 2021, which was arguably the hardest fight of the unbeaten Baltimore boxer’s career so far. The Mexican has since racked up three impressive wins on the spin, against opponents with a combined total of 78-6. His most recent was over Giovanni Cabrera to claim the WBC Silver Lightweight belt.
Speaking to Boxing Scene, Mexico City’s Cruz relayed that he now firmly believes he should be given a shot against ‘King Ry’.
“I am no longer waiting on Gervonta Davis. Ryan Garcia has been calling us out for the last few fights. That’s the fight I want and what my promoter wants for me. Call your attorney, Guadalupe Valencia and quit running, poodle.”
Cruz appears to be going to all lengths to try and poke the bear. Taking to Fight Hub TV, in another attempt to rile up the California Fighter, he said, “I want to emphasize that both Ryan and I want the fight. Our managers agree, and both of our promoters also agree. The only reason this fight isn’t happening and the negotiations aren’t finished is because of Lupe Valencia, they haven’t agreed for it to take place.
“Both Ryan and I are ready and focused for the fight. The reason Guadalupe Valencia does not want this fight is because he lacks confidence in his fighter and is looking for an easy fight like the ones they have always given him.
“I am here to bring trouble to his career and prove to everyone that Isaac ‘El Pitbull’ Cruz is more prepared than he is and ready to beat him in the ring. Thank you.”
It did not take long for the outspoken Garcia to respond to the Mexican’s call-outs, swiftly taking to Instagram to respond, “What’s a Pitbull to a Lion??”
‘King Ry’ appears to be looking elsewhere, showing interest in a potential fight with WBA super lightweight champion Rolando Romero, much to the displeasure of his promoter Oscar De La Hoya.
