Dragon Fire Boxing’s Thunderdome 54: Bazley vs Williams event preview
This Friday, May 29, Dragon Fire Boxing Promotions returns for its second Thunderdome event of the year at Metro City Nightclub, with a stacked night of action headlined by a heavyweight title clash.
In the Thunderdome 54 main event, Michael Bazley takes on Ryan Williams for the WA State Heavyweight Championship in what promises to be an explosive showdown.
The rest of the card features a strong mix of exciting matchups and rising prospects from across the Perth boxing scene.
Michael Bazley vs Ryan Williams
In the night’s headliner, “Big Bad” Michael Bazley looks to capture the WA State Heavyweight Title when he faces Ryan “The Pilgrim” Williams.
Since November of last year, Bazley has made a statement in Perth’s heavyweight division with two brutal knockout victories over Damien Johnson and Nepote Dawadawa.
However, Williams shapes as his toughest challenge to date. The former state title challenger holds a 2-3 professional record, with both of his victories coming by stoppage.
There are also high stakes for both men from a personal standpoint.
During a recent interview held at the venue, Williams revealed that this bout will likely be the last of his career.
Despite the fight with Bazley being his first in nearly three years, Williams remains determined to fulfil his dream of becoming a boxing champion.
Bazley revealed that a close friend passed away last year and that he made a promise at his friend’s grave that he would win this title fight.
With genuine emotion behind both fighters and the unpredictability that comes with heavyweight boxing, this is a contest Perth fight fans will not want to miss.
Owen Corrigan vs Micah Rivetti II
In the co-main event, Owen “Bomber” Corrigan rematches Micah Rivetti for the ANBF Australasian Light Heavyweight Championship.
Over the past year, Corrigan has become a fan favourite with Perth fight fans with his aggressive approach and knockout power.
Currently riding an undefeated record of 5-0, Corrigan sets his sights on the second championship of his career when he fights Micah Rivetti for a second time.
The pair first met back in March for the state light heavyweight title, where the Irishman earned a clear but competitive split-decision victory.
Since then, Corrigan has relocated to the Gold Coast to train alongside Angelo Hyder and the Moloney twins.
The state champion admitted that his preparation for the first fight was “not up to standard” and believes the changes made in his current camp will show on Friday night.
With another belt on the line and the desire to remove any remaining doubt, fans could be set to see a sharper and improved version of Corrigan in the second showdown with Rivetti.
Tanaka Saburi vs Bikash Rana
Earlier in the evening, rising prospect Tanaka Saburi looks to capture his first championship when he takes on Bikash Rana for the WA State Light Welterweight Title.
Despite suffering a loss in his professional debut, Tanaka “TSABZ” Saburi has quickly built momentum in the Perth boxing scene. With his smooth style, sharp jab, and defensive ability, The Aussie has developed a reputation as one of the city’s most entertaining young talents.
Now holding a 2-1 record, Saburi prepares to face his second international opponent in just his fourth professional fight, as he takes on Nepal’s Bikash Rana.
Rana is expected to provide a stern challenge with his aggression and durability. In the two fights he has had in the professional ranks, the Nepali has never been stopped inside the distance.
With Saburi looking to continue his rapid rise and Rana eager to spoil his momentum, this matchup has all the ingredients to steal the show on Friday night.
