Terence Crawford reveals boxing’s biggest fight right now
Two-weight undisputed champion Terence Crawford has named what he believes is the biggest fight in boxing and added, ‘it’s just facts.’
36-year-old Crawford put on the best showing of his career back in July 2023. He came up against the then-unbeaten Errol Spence Jr and boxed all from the off, controlling Spence with his jab and footwork before moving in for the stoppage in round seven. He briefly held all four belts in the welterweight division before being stripped of the IBF.
He has not fought since, but there has been plenty of talk about him facing up against another undisputed champion in super middleweight star Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, although Connor Benn also recently threw his name into the hat.
Crawford announced his desire to fight Canelo in a message on X.
“Terence Crawford vs Canelo Alvarez is the biggest fight in boxing right now. Like it or not, it’s just facts.”
One of the barriers to the fight is weight. Canelo has been as high as light heavyweight and Crawford started down at 138lbs having also been undisputed in the super lightweight division back in 2017. That doesn’t stop Crawford from wanting the fight, as he said in another message.
“I’m not scared and I most definitely believe in myself even if no one else does.”
Canelo traditionally fights in May and September and has not yet announced his next contest, with many hoping he might fight David Benavidez or Jaime Munguia, who was the first man to stop John Ryder when the pair fought at the end of January.
