Mighty one-punch KO for Junto Nakatani against challenger Vincent Astrolabio
With a crunching straight left to the body, the champ Junto Nakatani successfully defended his WBC bantamweight crown for the first time, by knocking out Filipino challenger Vincent Astrolabio in the very first round, in the main event presented by Teiken Promotions at the Kokugikan Arena in Tokyo, Japan last weekend.
Nakatani, world champion in three divisions, had knocked out the Mexican Alexandro “Peque” Santiago in 6 rounds to win the WBC bantamweight crown. His first defence was sensational, swiftly dispatching Vincent Astrolabio at 2:37 minutes of the first round.
Nakatani and Astrolabio began the fight by warily studying and measuring each other, via range finding. However, the southpaw champ managed feint to the head which exposed an opening, which he instantly exploited. It left no doubt.
Filipino Astrolabio crashed to the canvas doubled up in pain, tried to get up, but slumped back unable to beat referee Thomas Taylor’s count.
The power and the glory, fully evident, in the arsenal of the brilliant rising pound-for-pound superstar, in the Land of The Rising Sun. Nakatani improves his undefeated record to 28-0, with 21 knockouts. Sunday has come early for Junto.
