Key points:
- The WBO granted Devin Haney and Keyshawn Davis a 72-hour extension to finalise their title fight
- Purse bid proceedings rescheduled to Thursday, July 30, at WBO headquarters in San Juan
- The extension came from a joint request by both camps, not a unilateral delay
- If a deal isn’t reached by Thursday, the WBO will proceed with formal bidding
Devin Haney and Keyshawn Davis have bought themselves more time to strike a deal, with the WBO confirming a 72-hour extension on the negotiation period for their ordered welterweight title fight.
The purse bid, originally set for Monday, has been pushed to Thursday, July 30, at 11:00 a.m. AST at WBO headquarters in San Juan, Puerto Rico, streamed live on the organization’s social channels if it goes ahead.
WBO Championship Committee chairman Gustavo Olivieri confirmed the move came at the request of both sides. “Please be advised that upon joint written request of the representatives for Devin Haney & Keyshawn Davis, the WBO Championship Committee has approved a 72-hour extension of the negotiation period for the ordered WBO Welterweight Championship Contest,” Olivieri said. “The WBO remains committed to facilitating the parties’ efforts to reach an agreement while ensuring the orderly administration of its Championship Regulations.”
A joint request for more time, rather than either side pushing for the bidding process to start, points to negotiations that are still moving rather than stalled. If terms get finalised before Thursday, the purse bid is scrapped entirely and the fight proceeds under a negotiated contract. If not, the WBO will run the bidding process to decide promotional rights for one of the division’s most requested matchups.
