Russell and Puello to clash for WBC interim super-lightweight title
On Saturday, June 15 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, undefeated rising star Gary Antuanne Russell and former undefeated world champion Alberto Puello will clash for the WBC Interim super-lightweight title, live on Amazon Prime Video.
Russell comes into this fight after defeating Kent Cruz in the first round in August of last year, while Puello defeated Ector Madera by decision in December last year.
This is what they had to say:
GARY ANTUANNE RUSSELL: “I want to return boxing to its natural state. I want to climb the ladder and fight who I’m supposed to. I want to fight against guys with great credentials.
“We are going to continue working towards the top.
“Puello is another rival on the road. There are many opponents and they are all in the way. We are on a mission and I plan to execute it.
“I know that my dad would tell me to hit and not to hit me, to keep his hands up, not to relax. Right now he is here in spirit and I will spontaneously hear certain things he will tell me. I want to honour his name and make sure that everything he worked for is not in vain.”
ALBERTO PUELLO: “I’m excited to be back on such a tremendous card on June 15.
“I’m going to do my best in the ring like I always do and I’m going to give the fans what they deserve, which is a great fight.
“Gary is a good fighter, but he is not the one who will stop my momentum. I’m going to go in there to get the win.
“I know this will not be an easy fight, but I have all the tools necessary to stop Gary or any opponent in front of me.
“This fight could definitely steal the show. This opponent is a tough nut to crack, but I know we will give the fans an unforgettable fight.”
