Professional boxer Mylik Birdsong was pronounced dead at an LA hospital on Sunday evening
31-year-old boxer has been shot dead in Los Angeles, where police are now searching for multiple gunman.
Welterweight Mylik Roashun Birdsong (15-1-1, 10KO) was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital on Sunday evening, September 28.
Los Angeles police say he was standing outside his residence in the Florence-Graham area of the city when a ‘dark-coloured SUV drove by westbound on 87th and shot at the victim.’
Birdsong tried but failed to escape to the safety of his home.
‘The victim then ran towards his residence [when] two suspects from the vehicle started chasing him while shooting at him,’ an LAPD spokesperson told KTLA 5 News.
Birdsong fell in the driveway, which is where he was found by first responders. He suffered seven gunshot wounds to the torso.
The suspects fled in the dark SUV, according to police.
Birdsong is not a well-known boxer, although he possessed an impressive 15-1-1 record with 10 knockouts.
Known as ‘Gifted Black Sheep’, Mylik had won a WBF International title in his career.
He was scheduled to face Armenian Gor Yeritsyan (18-1) on October 26 at LA’s Commerce Casino.
Just a day earlier he was showing off his new dog online.
‘Good little girl,’ he said in an Instagram post while holding a grey and white puppy with two different colored eyes. ‘See that body.’
