Alycia Baumgardner joins Derrick James
Undisputed super featherweight champion Alycia Baumgardner (15-1, 7 KOs), has teamed up with Derrick James, one of the best and most sought-after trainers in the business, to ready for her next fight on July 11.
Signed to MVP, Baumgardner will defend her undisputed championship against unbeaten Spaniard Jennifer Miranda (12-0, 1 KO) on the undercard of the Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor trilogy at Madison Square Garden in New York City.“A solid addition. An even stronger foundation. We’re ready for July 11!” ‘The Bomb’ wrote on social media.
Her next opponent, 38-year-old Miranda, is an undefeated, former Spanish featherweight champion, but hasn’t faced any renowned opponents.
From Madrid, she turned pro in 2018 and won her first title in her second bout, and has won four 10-round contests during her 12-fight pro career, so the distance won’t be a problem for her, but she will be fighting at a much higher level than ever before.
Baumgardner has received various awards and is currently considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in sport of boxing.
53-year-old Texan trainer James has worked with Errol Spence Jr., Jermell Charlo, Ryan Garcia, Anthony Joshua and Chris Martin.
His Dallas-based gym is the home of some of the world’s best fighters and is visited by boxers from all around the world for top-class sparring and training.
