Taylor O’Connor
Boxing Betting Writer
I’m the boxing betting writer at British Boxing News, and I’ve covered the sport and its betting markets for more than eight years. I cover fight week — the odds moves, the round and method-of-victory markets, and which bookmakers actually price a card properly and pay out on it.
Most fight previews stop at who wins. The interesting part starts after that: a favourite who drifts from 1/4 to 1/3 in the 48 hours after a weigh-in is usually telling you something, and the distance and round markets are where that information surfaces first. That’s my subject — method of victory, over/under rounds, in-play pricing and the accumulators built on top of them.
I test the bookmakers as well as the odds. I’ve opened and funded accounts with more than 60 UKGC-licensed operators to see what actually happens on a fight night — whether round betting and method of victory stay live in-play, how quickly a withdrawal clears after a 2am stoppage, and whether the “boxing specials” attached to a welcome offer survive a read of the terms. Every operator I recommend holds a current UK Gambling Commission licence, and I re-check the offers before each major card.
I’ve been ringside at British and Commonwealth level since 2017, which is where most of what I know about how a card actually unfolds comes from.
Outside of work I spar badly twice a week at a gym in Salford, and still haven’t forgiven the referee in Froch–Groves I.
Favourite bet: method of victory on a heavy-handed underdog.
Worst beat: Fury–Wallin, 2019. A cut in the third and twelve rounds of pure regret.
