Wayne Adeniyi next fight confirmed
Unbeaten cruiserweight Wayne Adeniyi 10-0-0 is back in action on March 21st at Liverpool Olympia in his first fight since being crowned Central Area cruiserweight champion in December last year.
32-year-old Adeniyi started his training camp this week for his six round March showdown with a view to fight again soon after for further titles.
Adeniyi stated, “Not been matched up yet but it’s gonna be a test for me; every fight from now on is gonna be a test.” He continued, “You could look at this next fight as a tune-up but it’s not, I’ve never looked past a fight, me. I’m looking at this as a real test, it’s my first six rounder, with not boxing a six rounder before and the first fight since winning the title, it’s gonna be a test. I’m looking to set a good pace for this six rounds and looking to give a good performance.”
Adeniyi is signed by promoter Steve Woods’ VIP Promotions and following the cracking domestic dust-up in December last year that saw the unbeaten cruiserweight crowned as Central Area champion over Carl Dilks, there are big plans in the pipeline for ‘The Rock Ferry Apostle’.
“Looking at a three fight deal over the next six months, I haven’t signed anything yet but been offered this three fight deal which can culminate with a good title fight,” said the Merseysider. “I’ve heard that there could be links with the WBC so within that three fights we’ve heard about the International Masters and WBC but it’s all pinning on this next six-rounder so I’m taking it very seriously.”
On the aforementioned fight with Carl Dilks which many witnesses considered a contender for fight of the year, Adeniyi responded to the rumours of a rematch, “There could be but it’s gonna have to make business sense first and foremost with the right title at the right venue.
“He’s a mate and we have good rivalry. I spoke to Carl Dilks on the phone and he said unless he gets the rematch he’ll retire and I don’t want him to because we’re both good students of the game. He’s a seasoned pro and he’s boxed for Commonwealth titles and been in Prizefighter, perhaps by the end of the year we could be boxing for an English title or British eliminator, something that’s worthwhile.”
The top 20 ranked cruiserweights had the Liverpool Olympia crowd on their feet as they went to and fro in a cracking ten round dust-up ending with referee John Latham awarding the contest to Rock Ferry’s Adeniyi with a score of 96-95.
Adeniyi’s next fight will be his first in 2015, “Training’s starting tomorrow. I’ve just been ticking over ‘til now, done a lot of incline work, hitting the bags, but I start tomorrow. I’ll be there with my trainer George Schofield this week in the Pro-Flex Gym in Garston, my good friend Louis Cuddy will be helping me with sparring and he’ll be looking to put a good shift in for the rest of the season. He’s a cruiserweight as well so we work really well together and he’s 13-0 so he’s a real talent. I’ll be working with Peter Phelan, he's my old amateur coach at Wirral CP, he’s a real magician with the padwork. It's a great club, Paul Lloyd, Paul Butler, Matty Fagan, Mason Cartwright have all boxed out of there and they need sponsoring to stop from getting shut down!”
After winning the Central Area title, things have begun to look up for Adeniyi, “It’s been great, just a lot of great support, everyone across Merseyside have been so supportive and it’s opened a lot of doors.” The VIP Promotions show on March 21st is still being finalised by promoter Steve Woods with further details to be announced shortly.
Tickets are priced at £30 for standard and £60 for ringside and are available directly from the Team Adeniyi on 07894 016927.
The fight will be streamed live on vipboxing.tv
