Matt Macklin and Joe Gallagher back together
Matthew Macklin appears to have once again linked up with Manchester-based trainer Joe Gallagher after photos emerged of him working out with brothers Callum and Stephen Smith.
The 32-year-old was forced to cancel the Dublin show he was due to headline later this month after his trainer Jamie Moore was the victim of a shooting in Spain.
Moore, who beat Macklin in an epic domestic title fight in 2006, agreed to train his friend and former rival late last year at the Birmingham-born Irishman’s gym in Puerto Banus, Marbella.
Moore told Sky Sports earlier this week that he expects to be unable to resume his duties as a trainer for six months following the shooting earlier this month. And that appears to have prompted ‘Mack the Knife’ to resume – at least for the time being – his working relationship with Gallagher.
The pair worked together in 2009 and won British and European middleweight titles before Macklin moved to Los Angeles to team up with revered trainer Freddie Roach at the famous Wildcard gym. Gallagher’s stable of fighters includes WBA super-bantamweight champion Scott Quigg, Smith brothers, Callum, Liam, Paul and Stephen, and Anthony ‘Million Dolla’ Crolla.
