Ellie Scotney faces unbeaten world champion next on Matchroom show
Ellie Scotney (8-0) has earned the opportunity to claim her second world title against fellow champion Segolene Lefebvre (18-0, 1KO) on a Matchroom Boxing show in Manchester on April 13.
The IBF world super bantamweight champion from Catford won her title in June last year, beating Australian Cherneka Johnson in only her seventh professional bout.
Now, the 25-year-old Londoner faces the undefeated WBO belt-holder Lefebvre on the undercard of Jordan Gill vs Zelfa Barrett on DAZN.
Her French opponent, unbeaten in 18 professional fights, will be making the fourth defence of her title that she won back in 2021.
It will also be the first time that 30-yeat-old Lefebvre has fought outside of her home country of France as, while boasting an impressive record, she has never really been tested by an elite-level operator.
The same could be said for the talented Scotney, although the 25-year-old’s experience at international amateur tournaments has already put her well ahead of most other fighters at the top of her division.
WBA champion Erika Cruz Hernandez is widely regarded as the best super bantamweight in the world, after beating big puncher Mayerlin Rivas for the title towards the end of last year.
With both fighting on DAZN, it would make sense for Scotney, if she comes through Lefebvre, to face Hernandez in a showdown for superiority in the division.
But first, the Shane McGuigan-trained fighter is laser-focused on the task at hand, preparing alongside WBO world cruiserweight champion Chris Billam-Smith, who is expected to defend his title against unbeaten contender Richard Riakporhe in a chance to get revenge over his British rival.
