Matchroom NXT GEN event announced
The disappointment of yet another postponement of the rematch between Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall saw sighs echoed throughout the UK, with boxing fanatics beginning to doubt whether the pair will ever meet in the ring, despite the newly-announced fight date. However, the positive from the delay was the birth of another Matchroom show, which has now seen a potentially historic world title bout added to the undercard.
Peter McGrail was poised for a rematch of his own on the Taylor-Catterall II bill, taking on Ja’Rico O’Quinn just four months after the American handed him the first defeat of his career with a shocking fifth-round knockout in spite of being dominated for the rest of the fight.
Yet, instead of forcing the Liverpudlian to further wait for his revenge, Matchroom Boxing decided that McGrail should instead headline his own card in his hometown next month.
Today, the undercard for the ‘NXT GEN’ Merseyside show was confirmed, with highly-rated prospects such as Pat McCormack, Junaid Bostan and Peter’s younger brother, Joe McGrail, all set to appear.
Although, the addition of Beatriz Ferreira (4-0) is the name that is capturing most of the attention, as the Brazilian hopes to become IBF lightweight world champion in just her fifth professional contest, taking on Argentina’s Yanina del Carmen Lescano (14-3) for the vacant belt in a South American showdown in Merseyside
Looking to become World Champion and Olympic Gold medallist in the same year 😮💨

A win for Ferreira would position her for the opportunity to become the first male or female fighter in the history of the sport to become world champion and an Olympic gold medallist during the same year due to her participation at Paris 2024, where she seeks to go one better than her silver medal at Rio 2016.
