Wilder’s trainer Malik Scott wants a word with Jamie Carragher
Former heavyweight contender and now trainer of Deontay Wilder, Malik Scott, has warned Jamie Carragher after the Liverpool football legend ‘irritated’ his girlfriend on live television, causing friction between the presenters.
Scott hung up the gloves in 2016 with a record of 38-3-1, with his only losses coming against the likes of Wilder, Derek Chisora and Luis Ortiz.
However, in 2021 Scott was brought to the forefront of the sport once again as he was appointed as the lead trainer of ‘The Bronze Bomber’, aiding Wilder’s preparation for a trilogy bout with Tyson Fury where he put in an improved but insufficient performance against his British rival.
Away from the sport, Scott has begun a relationship with Sky Sports presenter Kate Abdo and on a live broadcast, Carragher joked that she is not loyal to her boyfriend.
In an interview with Lord Ping, Scott responded to the comments and threatened to ‘show up in a physical manner’.
“It was a very minute thing, but her being irritated by it a little bit is what really got to me.
“If Kate gets upset then it’s a really big deal to me and I’ll give him a call and if he doesn’t pick up my call, then I’ll show up in a physical manner so we can talk like men, so that’s not something you should continue to do.
“I thought Jamie was just being himself, sometimes he can have a runny mouth, sometimes he’s not that good at reading the room, sometimes he’s someone that can make beyond sarcastic jokes and it comes across as digging a little bit, especially if you’re dealing with a woman.”
Irrespective of his drama with Carragher, Scott will now focus on getting Wilder back to winning ways, with a new fight for the American set to be confirmed.
