Things you didn’t know about Adam Azim’s opponent, Enock Poulsen
Super-lightweight sensation Adam Azim (10-0, 7KO) defends his European title for the first time to former holder Enock Poulsen (14-0, 5KO) on Saturday, February 3 at the OVO Arena, Wembley.
Ranked WBA #10, the 21-year-old whiz kid has been highly regarded ever since turning pro in 2020 following an amateur career that saw him win 10 national titles and reach No.1 in the world at welterweight.
Trained by Shane McGuigan, “The Assassin” is a rising star that is becoming known globally, but who is his 11th professional opponent, Enock Poulsen? Find out all you need to know about the visiting fighter below:
Who is Enock Poulsen?
Enock Mwandila Poulsen was born on July 24, 1992 in Lusaka, Zambia.
He moved to Denmark with his mother, brother and Danish stepfather at the age of four.
His stepfather, Tommy Poulsen, was a boxing trainer in the boxing club BK Ringen in Odense, who first introduced Enock to boxing at the age of 10.
The youngster went on to experience 87 bouts, wining 68 and losing just 19. He became a Jutland, Danish and Nordic champion and took part in international tournaments in Poland, Germany and Turkey.
Poulsen tried to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympics, but was unsuccessful, so he decided to turn pro that year instead, signing contracts with Mogens Palle and Brian Nielsen of Danish fight Night.
The 31-year-old now resides in Aarhus, Denmark, where he is regarded as one of the greatest Danish boxing talents since Mikkel Kessler.
He won his pro debut on October 29, 2016 against a 74-fight veteran, who was a former Georgian national champion that had challenged for the IBF International title before.
Enock won the IBF Youth super-lightweight title in his seventh pro bout in 2018.
He added the EBU European Union super-lightweight title in 2019, but then was side-lined for almost three years due to the global pandemic.
He came back to the ring in April 2022 to win the European super-lightweight title with a career-highlight unanimous decision win over Franck Petitjean, who Adam Azim defeated by TKO-10 in November 2023.
Now that he is reaching higher echelons in the sport, he has recruited Rabaz Anwar as a mind coach to enhance his mental strength and manage stress levels.
He is 5’ 9 ½” with a 69 ½” reach.
His two main goals in boxing are to become a world champion and to return back to his African roots in Zambia to build a sports college.
He works in partnership with SEIER Fitness as a personal trainer.
He is a father to a young daughter.
Despite Enock travelling over to the lions den with plans to unseat Britain’s top prospect, the African-Dane is respected for being a gentleman outside of the ring and real talent inside of it.
BBN would like to wish both Adam and Enock all the best in this weekend’s exciting European title clash.
