After much speculation and a long wright for the announcement, the weight divisions for the highly awaited 5 v 5 event between Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing and Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions have been unveiled.
Among the rumoured matchups are Deontay Wilder vs. Zhilei Zhang and Filip Hrgovic vs. Daniel Dubois and in a post on X from Matchroom over the weekend they asked fans which fights they would most like to see.
The innovative event shares the card with the much-anticipated undisputed showdown between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol and is one that would have seemed impossible not long ago given the poor relations between the two rival promoters.
Frank Warren led the charge by announcing the first chosen class, the heavyweights, which is widely regarded as the pinnacle division in boxing. In response, Hearn made his selection and went with featherweights, then Warren followed suit by picking the middleweights, a weight class steeped in history within the UK.
Hearn then went with featherweights and the last weight class was determined by Turki Al-Sheikh, who opted for the big men. Furthermore, he confirmed that fighters not currently affiliated with Matchroom or Queensberry could participate.
The specific fighters for each division will be unveiled at a press conference in London in April.
