Denzel Bentley KO’d Derrick Osaze in just two rounds in York Hall headliner
WBO #2 Denzel Bentley (20-3-1, 17KO) scored a second successive second round stoppage on Saturday night August 17, at the iconic York Hall.
‘The Punching Preacher’ Derrick Osaze (13-2, 3KO) copped a clean uppercut in round two of his WBO International middleweight title challenge against Bentley that KO’d him cold on his feet.
Peckham-born Osaze was a little less aggressive in the championship opener, perhaps due to the size of the occasion or because of his inactivity.
Bentley was on the backfoot, landing a nice jab in the last 30 seconds of the first.
The fight began to heat up in round two as Osaze opened up and began to swarm his opponent, like he’s known for. He was landing hooks and uppercuts in close but Bentley was happy with the range and pace.
‘2 Sharp’ was edging backwards behind a range-finding jab that he was flicking out into the middle of Osaze’s guard, then patiently threw a huge right uppercut just at the right time to land accurately and cleanly with such power and weight that ‘Delboy’ instantly dropped to canvas unconscious.
Fortunately, the former Ultimate BOXXER winner, who now resides in Nottingham, was back to his feet, safe and smiling.
29-year-old Bentley is a two-time British champion and world title contender, and current WBO International middleweight titleholder. Ranked WBO #2, this latest win in his glittering career puts him touching distance of a rematch with unified WBO and IBF champ Janibek Alimkhanuly.
