Wayne Rooney comments on boxing debut reports
Yesterday’s revelation of Wayne Rooney’s potential venture into boxing with Misfits Boxing has stirred plenty of interest and has now prompted the football icon to address the speculation.
Reports from The Mirror unveiled discussions about Rooney possibly participating in upcoming Misfits events, known for featuring celebrity boxers like KSI and Logan Paul under promoter Kalle Sauerland.
38-year-old Rooney, long passionate about boxing and having accompanied Ricky Hatton in his Las Vegas bout, seems inclined to get involved at the next level and actually have a fight himself.
Right now after two jobs with DC United in the US and Birmingham in the Championship, managerial opportunities seem elusive, which might clear the path for the Liverpudlian’s entry into the ring.
The five-time Premier League winner himself has now addressed the talk on the We Are The Overlap podcast in a clip shared on X.
“You never know. They’ve been in touch and asked the question,” the former forward begun. “I think at the minute I want to focus on getting back into management, not boxing.
“They’ve been in touch to fight. There’s been a few and obviously that Misfits have been in and that’s been all over the news.
“Listen I want to focus on getting back into management, I’ve seen over the last couple of days all the headlines, but my main focus is getting back into football.”
As long as the possibility lingers that Rooney might shift his career trajectory, plenty of people will keep a keen eye on developments.
