Frank Warren has expressed concern that Jake Paul’s upcoming fight with Mike Tyson is a fully sanctioned professional contest.
This news broke yesterday and means that both men will be eating traditional 10 oz boxing gloves, either will be wearing headguards, and that the fight result will appear on both of their records.
Tyson was one the most fearsome men in boxing and the youngest ever heavyweight champion but he is now almost sixty with several health issues. He hasn’t fought since back-to-back losses almost 20 years ago.
Paul is a younger, fitter man, and though he has less experience, he has been active in the ring in recent years.
Warren once promoted a Tyson fight in the UK back in the 90’s and has now been speaking to talkSPORT about his upping contest on Amazon Prime in July.
“I’m a big fan of Jake Paul as a promoter, very smart operator, they obviously see this as a fight that will generate public interest and obviously money, but let’s get it right, Mike Tyson is 58 years of age and shouldn’t be fighting. It’s as simple as that. If it was an exhibition you might half get away with that but the fact that good old Texas has licenced a 58-year-old to fight. What does anybody need to say about that, anybody with an ounce of brains can see that is ridiculous.”
