Vergil Ortiz and Jose Ramirez ring returns confirmed
It has now been revealed that both Vergil Ortiz (20-0, 20KO) and Jose Ramirez (28-1, 18KO) are set to feature on the same card as a date and location for the event has now been revealed.
According to an article in Boxing Scene, the former unified super lightweight champion Jose Carlos Ramirez is to make his debut with Golden Boy Promotions in what would be a homecoming fight on April 27 in his native Fresno.
The former Olympian has been out of action for a year since he secured an 11th-round knockout win over former champion Richard Commey and rumour has it that IBF super-lightweight champion Sergey Lipinets or former IBF lightweight champion Rances Barthelemy are both potential opponents.
Also on the card will be the unbeaten WBA Gold welterweight champion Vergil Ortiz Jr., who is another star of the Golden Boy stable, last out in January 2024 with a first-round knockout win over Fredrick Lawson.
Before that he had been suffering with the blood disorder rhabdomyolysis, so had fought just once in 19 months, last beating Brit Michael McKinson before the extended break in August 2022, but is now ranked No.6 by the WBO and WBC among super welterweights.
The announcement of an opponent is yet to come but the fight will be shown live on DAZN just a week after another huge night for Golden Boy that sees Devin Haney defend his world title against Ryan Garcia who has finally entered camp after a few weeks of high profile verbal back and forth.
