Shawn Porter believes Vasyl Lomachenko can still become undisputed despite his age
Vasyl Lomachenko entered the professional ranks with a heap of both amateur pedigree and expectation, but although he has reached the high heights that he was tipped for, ‘Loma’ at age 36 is yet to tick off his own personal goal of becoming undisputed champion.
Although, former welterweight champion, Shawn Porter, has declared his belief that the now lightweight contender can accomplish his dream.
The Ukrainian challenged for a world title in just his second professional contest, but was unsuccessful in his bid to break records, losing out to Orlando Salido by split-decision but becoming featherweight champion on his next outing where he defeated Gary Allen Russell Jr.
Lomachenko has since conquered the super-featherweight division and dominated the lightweight scene to become unified 135lb champion, but he lost his belts to Teofimo Lopez before he got the opportunity to challenge for the undisputed throne.
Three years later, that opportunity did come, as Lomachenko faced four-belt title-holder, Devin Haney, but he was on the wrong side of a controversial unanimous-decision, breaking his heart once again and reducing him to tears. Now Lomachenko is getting his title challenge back underway, with a bout for the IBF lightweight crown on the horizon and Shawn Porter is not writing him off from eventually adding the other three lightweight belts to his collection, he told Pro Box TV.
“His goal is to become undisputed. He has got enough experience, he has got enough craftiness, he has got enough of everything, and we can see that he’s still got enough in the tank to do it. Of course, he is fighting against the clock, as well as the fighters, but I do think that he has enough to make that goal become a reality.”
