Alex Krassyuk continues to question rival Tyson Fury
The dust has yet to fully settle on the fallout from the injury sustained by Tyson Fury and now Oleksandr Usyk’s promoter has cast fresh doubt on the validity of the video that claimed to show the precise moment it happened.
Originally scheduled for February 17, the highly anticipated undisputed clash between these two heavyweight champions was postponed due to a last-minute injury during Fury’s training camp. The British star was cut by a Croatian sparring partner and a shaky video was quickly leaked to show the supposed event.
It has lead to a delay in the proceedings and, after receiving medical attention and assessment, Fury underwent stitching and a new date for the historic match was quickly finalised for May 18.
Further videos showing Fury’s cut have since emerged and Usyk has also revealed how he reacted to the news of the postponement.
Now, speaking to Seconds Out, Usyk’s manager Alex Krassyuk has said he thinks the cut happened earlier and the video was retrospective cover.
“I was disappointed to see that. Up until now I can’t believe that that exact video shows the moment of the cut. How the hell comes an uppercut ending with an elbow, you have your headgear, it should be a very sharp elbow, maybe like a knife, like a Bruce Lee punch.
“My vision is that the cut might have happened earlier and some justification was taken on video because when you come out and shout ‘OK guys I am not disciplined, I sparred without any headgear, I didn’t put any Vaseline on, so here I go with a cut, unfortunately, I’ve taken a left hook to my eyebrow so the fight of the century has to be cancelled ’cause I skipped this rule and my team didn’t insist on things, it doesn’t sound decent, so you have to justify the injury.”
He does not question the cut, however.
“I’m not doubting the injury at all, the cut is real. A fighter cannot fight with a cut like that.”
Here’s hoping it heals in time and we still get to see this much-anticipated fight. Fortunately, Tyson Fury has shown the latest damage to his cut eye in a video message he released recently, which showed the stitches in an update for his fans.
