His Excellency provides exclusive update on Joshua-Ngannou and Fury-Usyk heavyweight fights
It had been widely assumed that the victor of Anthony Joshua versus Francis Ngannou would go on to fight the winner of the undisputed fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.
Thankfully, within 24 hours, a new fight date had been announced of May 18, but does that still mean the winner of Joshua Ngannou will be around for their shot at the newly crowned undisputed king?
That fight takes place on March 8 and will see a resurgent Joshua, fresh off the back of a knockout win over Otto Wallin in December, take on Ngannou. The former UFC heavyweight champion has had just one professional boxing match and it was against Fury, whom he managed to knock down in the third round but eventually lost on points over 10.
Speaking to The MMA Hour, His Excellency Turki Alalshikh revealed what he expects to happen to the winner.
“I will tell you a secret in my mind. What is in my mind is if Ngannou wins, you know he will have a rematch against the champion [Fury]. If Joshua wins, the winner of Tyson and Usyk, it will be long time [before he can face them] because they will have a rematch. We are thinking and in discussions with Joshua camp, and Hrgovic camp, to maybe have a fight between them.”
In the meantime, Hrgovic has also been given a shortlist of six names to fight on the undercard of Joshua versus Ngannou.
