BOXXER continue to push for bigger audiences for their stable of stars
Lauren Price’s first shot at a world title will be free to view on BBC Wales following a landmark rights deal reached by BOXXER and Sky Sports.
The Olympic gold medallist aims to topple WBA world welterweight champion Jessica McCaskill at the Cardiff International Arena, where her homecoming will take place on May 11.
On Thursday, her promoter, BOXXER, announced that Welsh boxing fans will be treated to the spectacle on Terrestrial TV, while the show is set to be viewed on Sky Sports across the rest of the UK.
Since making her professional debut after the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Price has steamrolled through her six opponents without breaking a sweat.
The 29-year-old became the first woman to win a British title back in 2023, and now takes aim at a vastly experienced world level operator.
Despite losing to Katie Taylor via a wide unanimous decision back in 2017, McCaskill has established herself as one of the most esteemed fighters in women’s boxing.
In 2020, she became the undisputed champion at 147 lbs, defeating Cecilia Braekhus before outpointing her again in the rematch.
Then, after losing to Chantelle Cameron in a bid to become undisputed at super lightweight, McCaskill put her belts on the line against Derby’s Sandy Ryan last September.
While the fight ended in a controversial draw – with the Brit feeling aggrieved that she had not come away with the titles – McCaskill proved that, once again, she has what it takes to compete at the highest level.
At the age of 39, though, there is a chance that Price is catching her at the right time.
Should she come through this stern test in Cardiff, it is likely that Price will find herself on a collision course with BOXXER stablemate and IBF champion Natasha Jonas, who will be considering potential opponents for her next fight on Sky Sports.
