Tyson Fury’s manager has given some context to a new confrontation between former opponents Francis Ngannou and Fury
These two rivals were sharing the ring together in October last year out in Riyadh, and Ngannou, the then-boxing novice making his debut against the decorated champion, boxed well enough to be able to match Fury and even knock him down, but ultimately lost on points after 10 rounds.
As such, many people thought he was unlucky to lose so there has been lingering animosity between the two that has occasionally boiled over, especially this week as they came together again in Saudi Arabia for Ngannou’s fight with Anthony Joshua, who he thinks is showing signs of nerves.
Speaking to Boxing Social, Fury’s manager Spencer Brown explained exactly what happened when the two were placed in the same room together.
“It was unbelievable. We’d just got off the place and we were told we were wanted at the house and we walked in and everybody was there.
“So Tyson gave me a look as if to say ‘you’ve stitched me up here’, but obviously I didn’t, we didn’t know. Next thing is Tyson’s gone straight over to Ngannou and called him out.
“Turki Alalshikh was sat there laughing, but that’s what he does, he’s that sort of character. He’s a cracking fella!”
Should Ngannou beat Joshua this Friday, he might well get another shot at Fury sometime down the line, but only if Fury himself gets through his next fight which is a historic undisputed contest with Oleksandr Usyk on May 18.
