Tyson Fury claims he was enjoying himself too much in the fight with Usyk
British behemoth Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24KO) suffered his first and only loss, last month in May, against the incredible Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14KO) in Saudi Arabia.
The Brit was split decisioned by the European, who narrowly edged the contest after scoring a standing eight-count in round nine of the undisputed heavyweight championship contest.
The rivals are set to lock horns again on December 21. Fury is back in camp already, preparing for his revenge. The 35-year-old has been reflecting back on the defeat, but has dismissed his one and only conqueror as “too easy”.
Talking to the Furocity YouTube Channel, ‘The Gypsy King’ stated, “It was actually a lot easier than I thought it would be, the Usyk fight. A lot easier.
“People were saying he’s a hard man to to hit. I was lighting him up with three, four punch combinations. Laughing at him.
“My problem in that fight, I probably I had too much fun. Probably too easy.
“At times, it was too easy. It was like I was in there with a local amateur boxer and I was just enjoying it too much, messing around and I paid the ultimate price in round nine where I got a 10-8 round and I got clipped.
“And that’s what happens when you have too much fun.”
Fury will have the chance to back this claim up when he rematches Usyk in Riyadh just days before Christmas. But will it really be as easy as he expects?
Usyk is now a two-weight undisputed champion, one of only three male boxers to ever achieve this feat in the four-belt era, along with Terence Crawford and Naoya Inoue.
