Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk is off
The world of boxing let out a collective sigh as news recently broke that Tyson Fury has been forced to withdraw from what would have been a legendary undisputed heavyweight title clash against Oleksandr Usyk, which was set to take place in just over two weeks’ time. Now, ‘The Gypsy King’ has apologised in an official statement.
There were rumours that Fury was not up to his best in sparring, although nothing was confirmed. However, those whispers may have been proven to have more substance than first believe after confirmation that the WBC champion has pulled out of the hotly-anticipated undisputed showdown.
In an official press release, a spokesperson from Queensberry confirmed that they are looking at rescheduling the bout, but are unable to do so until Fury has been medically assessed.

“Whilst this is still breaking news it is clearly a massive disappointment, after the work that has been done by so many people to finally deliver this historic event to the world. Once the Doctors have appraised Tyson’s eye, we will have a better idea of the period of recovery needed. Once known, we will work diligently with all of the stakeholders and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to reschedule this fight as soon as possible and will of course keep everyone updated with developments.”
Meanwhile, a disappointed Fury offered a sincere apology to fans around the globe and to his rival, Usyk, who may still appear on the card.
“I am absolutely devastated after preparing for this fight for so long and being in such superb condition. I feel bad for everyone involved in this huge event and I will work diligently towards the rescheduled date once my eye has healed. I can only apologies to everyone affected including my own team, Team Usyk, the undercard fighters, partners, and fans as well as our hosts and friends in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
The frontrunner to fill Fury’s shoes and face the slick Ukrainian appears to be IBF #1, Filip Hrgovic, although it remains to be seen whether the Croatian would be willing to take a fight of such magnitude on just two weeks’ notice.
