Tyson Fury shows off stitches to cut eye in latest video clip
Fight fans have been given another insight into the eye injury that forced Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24KOs) to pull out of his undisputed showdown against Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs).
The ‘Ring of Fire’ showdown was originally scheduled to take place February 17 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, but has since been moved back to May 18 after it was announced that ‘The Gypsy King’ suffered a nasty cut above his right eye in a sparring session.
A new video, posted to Queensbury Promotions X page, has revealed the extent of his nasty injury. The cut which required 11 stitches, is on full display, as Fury discloses his plans for the near future as he recovers from his fight-halting injury.
“Back to reality today. Back to the good old Morecambe Bay weather, Rain, wind, cold. Back to the School Runs. Back to real-life stuff. Can’t wait to get back into training camp in Saudi and absolutely smash it. Come on Tuesday, bring it.”
The man responsible for the gash, Croatian heavyweight Agron Smakici, has admitted that while the injury may have been caused by an elbow, it was completely accidental. Though he has stated he “didn’t feel bad” for the fight having to be cancelled.
Despite the setback, the fight was rescheduled just a day after news of the injury surfaced. Fans can remain hopeful that they will see the highly anticipated showdown in 2024 as Turki Alalshikh, the man behind Suadi Arabia’s boxing takeover, has pledged to fine either fighter £10 million should they pull out of the PPV spectacle.
“I’ve guaranteed both fighters 10 million if someone has escaped the fight. I also guarantee another big fight on the same night,” Alalshikh announced on The MMA Hour.
