Tyson Fury: “If the cut opens up in the fight, f**k it!”
Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will finally meet on May 18 as they prepare to put it all on the line in an undisputed showdown in Riyadh. The heavyweight titans were originally scheduled to come together on February 17, however, unfortunately for both men, the bout was cancelled after ‘The Gypsy King’ suffered a nasty cut in sparring just weeks away from the bout.
Fury is now back to training and has revealed in his first public interview since the postponement that he is feeling good as we move closer to the historic meeting.
“In the game, s**t happens. Worse things have happened at sea. It isn’t the first and it won’t be the last time a fight has been cancelled with an injury. It is what it is,” Fury revealed in an interview posted by DAZN.
“At first, I was a little bit pissed off because it didn’t look like it was going to happen and we didn’t have a date. As soon as I got the date two days later it was fantastic. Everything’s good.”
Speaking on the current state of his injury, Fury appears confident that he has healed up, having an abundance of time to prepare for his May clash.
“It’s already healed up now – it takes about eight weeks to heal and I’ve got 15 weeks from the time of the cut until the new fight date so plenty of time”
If the cut opens up during the bout, the Brit is ready to roll with the punches, relaying that it’s simply part of the sport.
“I’m not worried about the cut – If the cut opens up in the fight, f**k it, I’ve had plenty of cuts before. It’s a fight.”
