Tony Bellew and Carl Froch continue their back and forth
Former cruiserweight world champion Tony Bellew has responded to suggestions that he could fight fellow British boxing legend Carl Froch in an exhibition bout, after ‘The Cobra’ joked of a potential showdown on his YouTube channel.
Famed for his fighting spirit, it is easy to see why a man with such a heart as Froch would have difficulties staying away from the ring and that has shown since his retirement in 2015, continuously calling for opportunities to come back and prove that he has what it takes to defeat his rivals.
The former super-middleweight champion has called out the likes of Joe Calzaghe, Jake Paul, Amir Khan and Conor McGregor in the past, but the proposal of a fight with Bellew, who has been linked to a comeback for a world title as recent as last year, does make for an intriguing clash.
Speaking to Spinbet, Bellew explained his confidence of stopping Froch in the contest if it were to manufacture.
“Was Carl Froch really joking? You really never know with Carl. I don’t know what the price would be to get me in the ring to fight Carl in an exhibition, but it wouldn’t go the distance I can tell you that much. Never say never. It wouldn’t take place at Goodison Park, but Carl wouldn’t see the final bell let me tell you that.
“If somebody offers me the right price, then I’m sorry to say that I am fighting again. Everybody has a price and everyone on social media can say what they like but if everybody needs to get paid and if they offer the right price then you do it and get on it.”
At 41-years-old, it is likely now or never for Froch if he is to come back and fight in an exhibition, and if the interest is there, particularly from Saudi Arabia, there is no reason why such a fight would not happen.
