Tommy Fury outlines exactly when he plans to fight next
British cruiserweight contender and conqueror of influencer boxing, Tommy Fury, has been suffering with an injury that has kept him out of the ring since October, after an extremely successful 2023.
Now, the half-brother of ‘The Gypsy King’ has outlined when he will return to action.
‘TNT’ Fury outpointed Jake Paul by split-decision last February, handing the controversial American his first defeat as a professional boxer as the pair headlined a pay-per-view card in Saudi Arabia.
Just eight months later, Fury returned in a similarly high-profile fight that was staged closer to home, in another PPV showdown with British YouTuber-turned-boxer, Olajide Olatunji, more formally known as ‘KSI’. Again, it was the established boxer who came out on top, edging out a razor-thin unanimous-decision in a relatively dull affair.
However, three months ago, Tommy Fury revealed that he had been dealing with a hand injury ever since his third professional contest and had finally decided to have surgery to ‘move forward with his career’.
In an interview with Boxing Social, Fury revealed the timescale for when he can be expected to get back into the ring.
“The [recovery from] injury is going alright, I had it done in January so it’s [had time to recovery] a bit now, I am making a full recovery. Everything has gone according to plan; I speak to the doctors twice a week and everything is going great.
“If I can sneak one [a fight] in at the end of the year then I will do that, hopefully just to get the ring rust out because I don’t want to have too long out of the ring. But, if not, then we roll onto 2025 and we start with a bang.”
Tommy Fury has been linked to rematches with both Paul and KSI, as well as a possible battle with UFC sensation Conor McGregor, although it seems that each of those proposals must be placed on hold until 2025.
