Major title fight officially added to Frank Warren’s Magnificent Seven show
Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren will stage the second edition of his ‘The Magnificent Seven’ show on March 16, with Solomon Dacres vs David Adeleye set to feature.
Michael Benson reports that the fight – for the English heavyweight title – has been ordered by the British Boxing Board of Control, on the condition that the winner defends against highly-touted prospect Moses Itauma next.
The show in Birmingham will see Joe Joyce – following his consecutive stoppage defeats to Zhilei Zhang – step back into the ring against Kash Ali.
Aside from the heavyweights, Nathan Heaney will defend his British middleweight title against Brad Pauls, after he impressed on the previous show in November last year, beating Denzel Bentley to cause a major upset in Manchester.
Dacres (8-0, 2 KOs), who also appeared on the original Magnificent Seven show, won the English heavyweight title, beating Michael Webster by majority decision in a fight where he looked far from his best.
Adeleye (12-1, 11 KOs), meanwhile, comes off a seventh-round stoppage defeat to British champion Fabio Wardley, which featured on the undercard of Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou in October last year.
The 27-year-old, stepping back down to English level, does have one notable win on his resume – against Kamil Sokolowski – in a fight that many thought he was fortunate to pinch on Marcus McDonnell’s scorecard.
Both fighters will be looking to progress to British level but, with Itauma lurking beneath them, they may have to wait a little longer.
Many consider Itauma to be the future of heavyweight boxing as, with the 18-year-old already demonstrating his devastating power, he could be in track to topple Mike Tyson by becoming the youngest heavyweight world champion in history.
