Josh Taylor vows not to make same mistake in Jack Catterall rematch
Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall ignited tensions in a fiery face-off during their rematch’s launch press conference in Edinburgh and “the Tartan Tornado” went on to outline the mistakes he made in the first fight before promising ‘it won’t happen again’.
The two bitter rivals have been talking about this potential rematch for years and once again clashed ahead of their anticipated showdown at Leeds’ First Direct Arena on April 27.
This much anticipated contest follows their contentious first meeting nearly two years ago, where Catterall controversially lost to Taylor in a split decision and Taylor managed to hold on to his undisputed titles.
The lingering animosity has boiled over many times on social media since and they exchanged heated words and physical altercations when coming face to face to once again underscore the intensity of their rivalry.
Speaking to the Scottish Sun, Taylor has now spoken about what he did wrong in the first match and has also promised to win by knockout this time.
“Going into the last fight with Jack, I was coming down off the top of Everest after holding all the belts. There was talk of moving up and fighting Terence Crawford and this kind of thing. Then I came back and fought Jack.
“He hadn’t fought anyone. I just thought, ‘I’ll get fit and beat this guy’. That’s probably the mistake I made. I underestimated him and I underestimated how competitive he could be. I won’t be making that mistake this time.”
With emotions running high and history fuelling their feud, anticipation mounts for this rematch which is set to redefine this contentious boxing saga.
