Sunny Edwards is looking ahead to big nights of boxing in the UK
Sunny Edwards seems uninterested in taking easy fights to bounce back from his first defeat at the hands of Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez, and has now been speaking of the future saying ‘I want to fight the best.’
The Londoner aimed to unify the IBF and WBO flyweight titles against Rodriguez in December last year but fell short, with hard-hitting Rodriguez securing a ninth-round stoppage out in Glendale, Arizona.
Despite his pre-fight trash talk and outspoken ways, Edwards graciously acknowledged Rodriguez’s dominance and has since revealed that he has contemplated a move to the junior flyweight division as part of his next steps forward.
He also shared a few fiery messages with Nonito Donaire and has now been speaking to Boxing King Media.
“I’m not going to dwell. It was a big fight, a great event to be part of, not the result I wanted obviously but I’m in a great position in my career and I’m already in a few discussions about big fights.
“At my weight, it’s hard to make a name for yourself, but the silver lining of that is, when you do, you become a big part of the division.
“I should be able to get busy, try negotiating for big fights, and world titles. I didn’t lose any confidence during that fight, after that fight. I don’t need any momentum, give me a training camp 10 weeks, 12 weeks, I still want to fight the best at the biggest event my name can get me in.”
He then spoke of his immediate plans to fight back in the UK.
“I’m big on pushing a homecoming and getting Eddie to let me headline in Sheffield so I can show I’m the biggest draw.”
