SugarHill discusses Tyson Fury’s tactics for Oleksandr Usyk fight
The trainer of Tyson Fury, SugarHill Steward, has been speaking about how his man might approach the Oleksandr Usyk fight and in the process has revealed a rather shock tactic.
This is the biggest fight of Fury’s career and one that could potential assure him the legacy he has always said he deserves.
Though he has already had huge wins on away soil against the likes of Wladimir Klitsckho, who he beat for his first world title in 2015, and three fights with Deontay Wilder which ended in one draw and two knockout wins for The Gypsy King, this fight with Usyk could define him.
It comes after a lacklustre showing against Francis Ngannou back in October which saw him put down on the canvas and take a narrow points win over 10 rounds, while Usyk is in a fine run of form that has involved two defeats of Anthony Joshua and a stoppage win over Daniel Dubois to defend his WBA, WBO and IBF world titles.
Now Sugar Hill has spoken to Boxing Scene about the plans for the fight after comments by Usyk’s team that Fury struggles with southpaws.
“I wasn’t in his corner for the [Otto] Wallin fight, and we’ve not faced a southpaw since, so there wasn’t anything to change. It’s about adding something extra to what he already has. Tyson has a great mind and he’s very intelligent, he is one of the best. The Wallin fight, he won anyway, the problems he had were from the cut he had on the night.
“Did [Krassyuk] really say that? I might have to change some things in the camp. I’m not going to tell you what I’m going to change, obviously. I can’t be giving away our game plan for the Usyk fight. [But] I will be making some adjustments.”
The historic undisputed showdown takes place in Saudi Arabia on May 18.
