Shakur Stevenson reveals who he thinks wins Oleksandr Usyk vs Tyson Fury rematch
Tyson Fury will run it back with Oleksandr Usyk on December 21 in Riyadh, seven months on from their first meeting, which the Ukrainian won on a split decision.
Less than three months on from their rematch, anticipation is beginning to build, and Newark star Shakur Stevenson shared his prediction on X: “I got Fury in the rematch, whoever wanna bet some bread on it hit my line, long as he in dog shape it’s gone be easy!”
He added: “Usyk one of the greatest I ever seen to be honest, but if Tyson Fury is in tip-top shape and, locked in, I got him.”
The last time Fury didn’t win a fight, he came back stronger with a seventh-round stoppage. After drawing to Deontay Wilder in 2018, ‘The Gypsy King’ came out for the rematch in 2022 like a raging bull, ploughing forward, taking the fight to the fearsome puncher, who was pushed onto the backfoot for the first time in his career.
The Morecombe man floored the unbeaten American multiple times before the fight was called off in the seventh stanza after Wilder was battered, bloodied and bruised after suffering from a 20-minute, one-sided beatdown.
Because of this successful comeback, his audacious change of tactics, walking through fire to get the knockout no matter what; Shakur and many more believe he will repeat the feat in his next rematch, which takes place in Saudi Arabia just days before Christmas.
BBN Editor Tim Rickson echoed Shakur’s thoughts, “I can certainly envisage Fury coming back and shocking the world like he has done so many times before – against Klitschko, against Wilder twice. He’s got the character and ability to do this, but Usyk is so skilful, awkward, experienced and tricky that he will be able adapt to anything Fury brings.
“Wilder didn’t have the same skillset to deal with Fury’s aggression, but Usyk, after over 350 fights, will be able to manage it. Plus, he knows he has the power to hurt the British behemoth after scoring a knockdown in the first fight, so his confidence will be stratospheric.
“It’s really interesting because these two are equally matched, so whoever can impose their gameplan on the other, wins. So, if Fury charges out with nothing but a knockout in mind, then I can see him pulling it off, because there were times when Usyk looked shaken by him early in the fight.”
