Shakur Stevenson reveals reasons behind criticised performance in last fight
Shakur Stevenson is a current world champion but has had to reveal some of the reasons why his last showing was less than impressive.
That came back in November when he was widely criticised for outpointing Edwin De Los Santos in what was an easy night’s work that saw him become a three-weight world champion out in Las Vegas.
The bout commenced with a cautious first round as De Los Santos aimed to dictate the pace. After then adopting an aggressive approach, the Dominican’s advances were thwarted by Stevenson’s exceptional defensive skills as he effectively nullified De Los Santos’ early attacks. This early exchange established the prevailing dynamic for the remainder of the fight.
Now, in a message posted on Instagram that has been captured by Michael Benson and shared on X, Stevenson tried to explain away his performance.
They say it’s excuses but shit I’m just saying facts Didn’t hydrate properly sucked up hadn’t fucked up shoulder and Won a world title on the same night against a really good fighter say what u what but I know I’m the best fighting in the sport n***** can’t beat me on the worst night of my life how y’all gone deal wit this version of me?”
Having retired briefly earlier in the year but then reneged on that, Stevenson is now hunting down a big fight in which he can get back to his best.
