Savannah Marshall joins the PFL
Savannah Marshall signs a multi-year deal with the Professional Fighters League (PFL) while her relationship with BOXXER is put on hold.
The undisputed super middleweight champion underwent hand surgery following her majority decision win over Franchon Crews-Dezurn in July last year.
While expecting to return to the ring this year, Marshall was unable to get a fight pencilled in with Boxxer on Sky Sports, so has now crossed over to MMA instead.
On October Red, her trainer Peter Fury said: “She was due to fight in March with Boxxer. That never prevailed, so she’s taking an MMA fight and we’ll see where we are towards the end of the year.
“I don’t really want to speak about them [BOXXER] at the moment. She got messed around a little bit and we move on.”
Along with Francis Ngannou, who faces Anthony Joshua in a boxing ring next month, the PFL roster includes Amanda Serrano and Marshall’s arch nemesis, Clarissa Shields.
Fury added: “I’m hearing all good things about the PFL. Shields is in it, and they’re on a collision course anyway, so it’s definitely going to be interesting.
“[Marshall’s] with Andy Aspinall and Tom, and we know them very well.
“She’s fighting in June, I think, in Newcastle.”
Marshall looks to be in good company training alongside UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall, but will no doubt have Shields firmly on her mind.
Before beating Marshall by unanimous decision in 2022 – levelling the score for their amateur and professional showdowns – Shields made her MMA debut with the PFL, winning via a third-round technical knockout.
So, if Marshall comes through her test in June, there could be a potential trilogy fight on the cards, this time in a different sport all together.
