Sam Eggington back in the ring this Thursday
One of British boxing’s most exciting fighters is back in the ring this week
Former IBO World super-welterweight champion ‘The Savage’ Sam Eggington (34-9, 20KO) is back in the ring this week for his second fight of the year when he takes part in a six-rounder at the Excelsior Sporting Club in Cannock on Thursday, November 28.
The 31-year-old from Stourbridge is set to fight over six rounds against an opponent yet to be named on the undercard of the Midlands Area super-middleweight title clash between Hereford’s Liam O’Hare and Ollie Cooper from Cannock.
Still just 31-years-old, the West Midlander hopes that victory will lead to a big fight in Canada in the New Year.
Following his loss to Abass Baraou for the vacant European super-welterweight championship in March, Eggington began working full-time in house clearances before having a rethink.
Twice he has won the British Boxing Board of Control’s Fight-of-the-Year award, in epic battles with Ted Cheeseman (Lost-UD12) and Frenchman Bilal Jkitou (Won-MD12), and after 12 years as a pro puncher, Eggington says he still has an appetite for fighting.
“I’m not just turning up to make the numbers up,” he told The Express & Star. “People know I have been around a long time, but I’m not getting injured all the time or feeling punches more than I used to.
“And I still always want an early night every time I fight! I never want to leave it to the judges.”
Sam has experienced 268 rounds over 48 fights, but it still young enough to compete with the best of Britain, ranked in the top 5 super-welterweights on BoxRec currently.
