Sajid Abid attempts to upset Tommy Collins’ Christmas
Sajid Abid (14-2, 1KO) faces undefeated prospect Tommy Collins (10-0, 2KO) in the main event of BCB Promotions show “Winter War” on Friday December 20 at the Eastside Rooms in Birmingham.
The super-lightweights clash for the vacant Midlands Area title, formerly held by Jermaine Osbourne-Edwards.
Abid, 30 from Derby, will occupy the away corner on the festive fight night, but has confidence and belief in himself to be The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, with the home fighter Collins favoured to win.
The English title contender revealed what sets him apart from ‘Tommy Gun’, “I believe my experience and calibre of opponents gives me the edge, I’ve beaten former champions and have completed several 10 round fights.”
Abid has defeated Southern Area title contender Tom Ansell and English champion Mikey Sakyi over 10-rounds, two years apart in March 2022 and 2023. Those two contests were each English title eliminators, but his English title challenge ended via unanimous decision defeat to Denis Denikajev in September last year.
“At this point, I’m prepared to fight anyone, I’ve trained to fight the best and ready for what ever he brings,” he added.
Sajid Abid comes into the fight with a 14-2 record, which includes a highlight reel KO when beating Sachin Nautiyal in Dubai.Since his second defeat, he has dropped and outpointed George Rogers in April this year who broke his fibular after a heavy knockdown in the third round.
Sajid concluded, “I’m about ready to end the year with a title and be a fat blob for a week!”
